Scott Weekes and Anne Laite Memorial Fund
About Scott and Anne
Husband and wife team Scott Weekes and Anne Laite – both UBC geology graduates – passed away within two days of each other in August, 2012.
Scott and Anne were passionate about geology. Having graduated with Bachelors of Science in Geology (Anne in 1983 and Scott in 1984), they both went on to careers in the field. Scott rose to the top of the ranks in the field of mineral exploration, while Anne went into science education, inspiring high school students to pursue their scientific interests, after completing both her Master of Science in Geology (1986) and a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education (Earth and Space Sciences, 1993). Together, they spent vacations exploring the geological wonders of the world.
In both their personal and professional lives, they were committed to the values of honesty, kindness and integrity. Anne passed away on August 17, followed two days later by Scott on August 19, both from cancer.
Scott and Anne both believed strongly in the value of education and the importance of supporting the next generation, and devoted themselves passionately to their shared love of geology. A fund has been created in Scott and Anne’s name at UBC to honour their memory.
