Beacon Rock Research founder, Mike Niehuser, shares an insightful Interview with Abzu Gold’s President, Paul Klipfel, Ph.D. This interview was done exclusively for The Stock Vine….
We spoke with Paul Klipfel, Ph.D., President of Abzu Gold TSX.V:ABS about their gold projects in Ghana. Dr. Klipfel has been working in Ghana with major mining companies such as Newmont (NYSE: NEM), AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE: AU), and Placer Dome over the past 15 years. Dr. Klipfel also noted that Ghana is among the world’s greatest gold producing nations, with a mining history going back hundreds of years. Abzu Gold has about sixteen exploration concessions in Ghana, evenly split between projects with 100% ownership, and the balance with the potential to earn a 51% ownership position in joint venture with Red Back.
Abzu Gold has two advanced projects in Ghana. They plan to devote about 50% of their exploration attention at the Nangodi project, in which they are earning a 51% interest. They anticipate completing 5,000 meters of drilling, with the goal of completing a resource estimate by the end of 2012. In addition, Abzu Gold also hopes to complete 5,000 meters of drilling at its 100% owned Asafo project in southern Ghana. While Dr. Klipfel sees Nangodi as having what he considers the most “low hanging fruit,” Asafo is 100% owned, and some attention will be directed toward prioritizing over a dozen other remaining projects.
Dr. Klipfel noted that he feels that Abzu Gold has a “dream team” of management and board support, including directors Gordon Neal, Jeff Pontius, Mark Cruise, Ph.D., and CEO Allan Serwa. He noted many additional board members with experience in making significant gold discoveries or bringing gold mines to production. He also spoke positively about Ghana as a place to do business, having gained independence about 50 years ago, with a culture friendly to the mining industry and rule of law. Investors interested in Abzu Gold may want to give attention to ongoing exploration efforts at Nangodi and Asafo, as well as their dozen plus other projects in Ghana.
